Home education is a lifestyle.

I've been home schooling my children for about 10 years we'll just put it that way. my oldest is 14 so I'll say that that's a good little roundabout estimate. And as it is I have a 5-year-old that I'm needing to start over with and I have been thinking a lot about how my blog is supposed to document how I started homeschooling in the first place and since I need to start over anyway with my five-year-old I think it's a good way to start. So since I've been home schooling for about 10 years now my homeschool year for official purposes starts in January on Martin Luther King's day and ends on Halloween well actually the week before halloween. And our little thing is that we begin this year with a dream and end it with a nightmare and Lord knows it has been following through with that concept. Every year it seems like at the end of the year it's a total nightmare everything's going wrong the house is in disarray and all sorts of things but it gives us something to do in the winter months in Ohio as we clean up and get rid of the disarray. this year my notice of intense because Ohio is a notification State and that's all it is we don't apply to home educate our children we just let them know that we're going to be doing it. So this year in November like always I sent in my notice of intent and I realized that I don't have to send in one for my 5 year old for another 2 years. But the topic of this post is that home education is a lifestyle. With that in mind you don't really start on a certain day and end on a certain day it is something that you do everyday. And with my youngest I'm just starting to kind of officially get back into the whole sitting down and learning how to write and read for official purposes. And at this age we kind of start off with just learning sounds of letters I mean before now I mean when he's born we learn how to identify colors and shapes and you're constantly talking to your child. Like I said home education is a lifestyle it is something you do from birth until they're out on their own. That's why I was so drawn to home education in the first place you're always molding your child into the ideal adult.

When I originally started homeschooling my children I was starting from nowhere. I had no idea how to educate my child at home I had no idea that home education was ultimately a lifestyle. I had to figure it out by reading a whole lot of books, surfing the internet, and realizing I didn't want school at home. I went to a private school but I didn't want my children to be in school. I was bored in school. I was not friends with a lot of kids. I wanted my children to have a private school level style education, because  although I was not social I realized it gave me a well rounded education. I needed to figure out how to execute the price school style education within a home setting. I wanted it to be seamless and natural. I have at this point done that for my older children, but covid threw a wrench in that flow for my youngest child. I was so busy trying to work and get back into the flow I neglected reading to my to youngest during bed time because I was so tired when I got home. Luckily my middle child enjoyed reading to my youngest while my oldest honed his cooking skills.
